CETPA is proud to partner with the K-12 High Speed Network (K12HSN) on the Technical Assistance and Professional Development Project (TAPD). This program targets IT Professionals and other LEA staff for no-cost training and tools in Network Management, Cybersecurity, Procurement, and Diagnostics
. These opportunities are provided via both live events and online courses.
Locally Hosted Training Events
In our final call for training proposals that went out in September 2018, we are happy to say we were able to award an additional $1M to COEs and Districts looking to host local training events. This is in addition to the $700K we awarded in 2017.
The TAPD Academy went live in September 2018 with two courses available. We now have three courses available with a fourth one in progress.

These courses are being developed by content experts focused specifically on the unique challenges that come along with working in a K-12 environment. We expect these courses to continue on after the grant period has ended with help from our partners.
TAPD New Horizons Training
We are continuing to work with New Horizons to provide remote, live multi-day training opportunities on a wide variety of topics related to network management. We now have close to 1200 participants trained through the TAPD New Horizons portal.
Network Monitoring & Scanning
We are continuing to offer network monitoring through Zabbix and network vulnerability scanning through Nessus at no cost.
The TAPD event calendar is updated regularly as new courses are added.
The project is funded via state grant through June 30, 2020, for professional development and technical assistance within K-12 schools. K12HSN was selected to help organize this important work in a way that leverages existing resources and partners.
The TAPD program began with a statewide survey of professionals within districts to create four domains of focus:
Design, implementation, management and maintenance of local area and wide area networks through wired and wireless connections.
Proactive protection of data privacy, student information systems and core services from theft, damage and disruption through hardware, software and the Internet.
The acquisition of services, products and contracts, including through subsidy programs such as E-rate (Federal) and CTF (California).
Active monitoring and diagnostic tools aimed at helping technologists manage, maintain and protect their systems and evaluate usage, bottlenecks and threats.
